Bountiful Baskets Jan. 2

This was a great pick-up! Everything looks nice and fresh and I'm craving fruits and veggies. Probably because I've eaten so many treats in the past couple of weeks!

1 pineapple
1 Bambino watermelon
7 oranges
9 Fuji apples
10 bananas
1 head of Romaine lettuce
1 bunch of celery
1 bunch of radishes
1 quart of Brussels sprouts
5 yellow crookneck squash
6 tomatoes
4 large yellow onions
13 Bosc pears

I also tried out the granola they were offering. I usually make my own, but not with as many different types of seeds in it (sesame, pumpkin, two types of almonds, honey instead of sugar, etc.). I tasted it and it's very good. I think I'll mix up some of mine and combine the two to spread out the "chunks".

Bountiful Baskets Dec. 19

I decided to go volunteer at this week's pick up and it turned out to be a lot of fun. Crazy, but fun. The truck was late, so we really had to hustle and still didn't quite finish before people lined up for their baskets.

Anyway, all I did was help with the "sorting" or dividing up all of the produce. The lady in charge gives you a job - such as putting a head of lettuce in each basket or breaking down all of the empty boxes. You go get a big box of produce like they get at the grocery store and start dividing it up. I ended up sorting out corn, potatoes, and bananas. And I ran into a girl I went to high school with. Funny how the world is a small place. I never dreamed I'd run into her sorting fruits and veggies in an empty warehouse!

So here's what came in the regular baskets this pick-up:

7 bananas
1 head of lettuce
2 crowns of broccoli
3 large mango
10 kiwi
6 ears of corn
12 honeycrisp apples
6 oranges
2 avacado
21 red potatoes (baby ones - yum!)
1 head of cauliflower
1 cantaloupe
1 butternut squash (except they ran out and some people got 2 cantaloupe instead).

Dinner Menu - Week of Dec. 7th

Here's what I'm planning to make for dinner this week. Sometimes things don't go as planned, but this is what I'm aiming for:

Monday- Beef Fajitas, Carrots, Watermelon
Tuesday- Cheesy Veggie Chowder, Bread
Wednesday- Sweet and Sour Pork over Rice, Fruit Salad
Thursday- Chicken Broccoli Bake with Noodles
Friday- Sausage and Eggs with Toast, Fruit
Saturday- Pizza and Green Salad
Sunday- Pork Tenderloin, Baked Potatoes, Corn

And a note to Magen: Does your family like quinoa? I saw that you're going to have it this week. I tried some a while back and it wasn't too tasty. But I didn't know what I was doing with it either. How do you cook it?
